Cleaning Your Sign in 5 Easy Steps
Here are 5 easy steps for cleaning your Sign Monkey sign.
Though a Sign Monkey sign requires little to no maintenance, you can keep it looking its best with a simple, thorough cleaning every once and awhile.
Here is a five-step guide to keeping your business storefront sign in tip-top shape:
Step 1: Power off your sign and cut power at the breaker. This ensures you can safely clean all angles of the sign without risk of electric shock.
Step 2: Gather your cleaning supplies. To clean your sign all you need is a solution of mild soap (such as Dawn), water and a soft brush or rag.
Step 3: Check weeping holes, or drain holes, on the sign for clogs or debris. Clear those if you do find any plugged up. There is no need to open your sign to clean it, but be sure the holes are clear or mold can collect inside.
Step 4: Don’t forget about the birds and the bees and falling leaves. Spring is a good time to remove any bird nests or wasp nests before the birds lay eggs or the wasps become active. If cleaning in the fall, remove any leaves or fallen debris.
Step 5: Power on the sign. After you have given your sign a good clean, don’t forget to turn the breaker back on and power on your sign.
Note that you should not use anything abrasive or any strong solvents to clean your sign as this could ruin the finish of the sign or damage the face. The paints and plastics are like an automotive finish, therefore you can use the same products to clean your sign.
Here at Sign Monkey we recommend a good cleaning once or twice a year. Spring or fall are great times to clean your outdoor sign to make sure it looks its brightest and to increase its lifespan.
