Stud mounting is one of the most common ways to install dimensional letters when you want hidden fasteners and a permanent finished look.
Signs that can use stud mounting
- Solid or vacuum-formed acrylic letters.
- Cast metal letters and logos.
- Flat cut letters and logos.
- Metal fabricated letters.
- Halo lit channel letter signs and other signs where hidden fasteners are required.
Installation checklist
- Confirm the mounting surface can support the sign weight.
- Tape the paper pattern securely to the wall.
- For masonry, mark each hole with a punch before drilling.
- Drill as straight as possible using the correct bit for the wall surface.
- Clean dust from each hole before adding adhesive.
- Set the letters, tape them in place, and let the adhesive cure before removing tape.
Hole sizing tip: holes are usually drilled slightly larger than the stud so the letters can be aligned cleanly. A 10-24 stud often uses a 1/4 inch hole; a 1/4-20 stud often uses a 5/16 inch hole.
